Overview
Get comfortable behind the decks and build a complete DJ set, from your very first song to a live showcase, in just 8 weeks.
This small group 8-week beginner course is built around hands-on time: the majority of every 60-minute class is spent actually DJing on professional equipment with instructor coaching. Unlike courses that wait until the end to assemble a performance, you choose your first song in Week 1, then add a new song each week while applying the newest technique you've learned. By the final weeks you're refining transitions, rehearsing, and preparing to perform the set you built yourself at the student showcase.

Get comfortable on professional DJ gear while building a complete set from start to finish. You'll pick your first song in Week 1, add a new track each week as you learn beatmatching, EQ, loops, and effects, and finish by performing the set you built at a live student showcase.

WEEK-BY-WEEK CURRICULUM

to the showcase.
Every 60-minute class follows the same simple structure: a short demo of new concepts, then 35-40 minutes of hands-on practice on the decks with instructor coaching, capped by a finisher where you perform what you created. That hands-on time is where everything clicks.
- Weeks 1-2: The gear, Rekordbox, track prep & choosing your first songs
- Week 3: Beatmatching, phrasing & mixing your first two songs
- Weeks 4-5: Transition techniques, loops, effects & filters
- Week 6: Programming your set with an opening, peak & ending
- Weeks 7-8: Rehearsal lab, recording & the student showcase

Intro to DJing Course FAQs
No experience is required. This course is designed for complete beginners. We start with the basics of the equipment and remove the intimidation factor of professional DJ gear from day one.
No equipment is required. We provide professional DJ controllers and Rekordbox at our studio. Having a laptop with Rekordbox installed helps with practice between sessions, but it's optional.
You'll learn on professional DJ controllers with Rekordbox, the industry-standard DJ software. The skills transfer to any club-standard setup: loading tracks, cue points, jog wheels, EQs, loops, and effects.
Yes! You start building your final set in Week 1, choosing your first song immediately and adding a new track each week. The course ends with a student showcase where you perform the complete set you built, and students are invited to perform publicly at a showcase following our happy hours.
Any music you love. You build your own set from your own musical inspirations, and your instructor helps you find songs that blend naturally together by tempo, energy, and even their abstract qualities.
The course meets Tuesdays from 7:00 to 8:00 PM for 8 weeks, starting August 11, at our studio at 33 West St, Floor 5, in Downtown Boston.
