Course
Overview

From one prepared set to reading the room in 8 weeks.

Intro to DJing gets you from the gear to a finished set. Level 2 is where you stop playing a set you rehearsed and start making decisions live. You tighten your beatmatching until you never reach for sync, mix in key so transitions sound intentional, build a library you can actually find things in, and learn to read a room and change direction on the fly. Classes are small groups of adults on professional controllers and Rekordbox, and most of every 60-minute class is spent mixing with an instructor at your shoulder, not watching a demo.

Level 2 DJ course session at Musicians Playground

YOUR GOAL

From mixing
two tracks
to playing a night.

Level 1 teaches you to get from one song to the next. Level 2 teaches you why one transition lands and another falls flat, and gives you the tools to fix it in the moment. By week 8 you play a longer set with confidence, without a script.

  • Beatmatching by ear that holds up without sync
  • Harmonic mixing, so blends sound deliberate rather than lucky
  • A Rekordbox library organized by key, energy and mood
  • More transition tools: loop rolls, acapellas, tempo and genre changes
  • The instinct to read a room and change direction mid set
  • A recorded mix you are proud to share

WEEK-BY-WEEK CURRICULUM

From the library
to the long set.

Same format as Level 1: a short demo of the new technique, then 35 to 40 minutes on the decks with instructor coaching, capped by a finisher where you play what you worked on. The difference is how much is left to you.

  • Weeks 1-2: Library prep, cue points, and beatmatching without sync
  • Week 3: Harmonic mixing, key and energy
  • Weeks 4-5: Advanced transitions, loop rolls, acapellas, tempo and genre changes
  • Week 6: Reading the room and playing without a set list
  • Weeks 7-8: Recording your mix and a longer set at the student showcase

Very cool place. The group classes are great. You're with other people, but you still get a lot of one on one attention from the teacher. It's like a gym but for music.
